Partnership…
Agriculture Research and Development works better if:
It is fed by and feeds into knowledge and activities of a multitude of stakeholders
Recognizes that stakeholders have complementary strengths
At the international level
BUT
Complains are often voiced about how difficult it is to have CSOs to talk “in one voice”
Participation of CSOs remains isolated phenomena, ad hoc and sometimes “window dressing”.
Here is where we come in
INSARD aims to: “Ensure an informed participation of a broad range of European and African civil society organisations in the formulation and implementation of ARD policies.”
Pillars
Develop a mechanism for consultation and participation amongst CSOs Use this mechanisms in a number of policy dialogues at regional and int. levels Identity research priorities from the CSO point of view
Not falling in the usual traps
- Building on existing partnerships, initiatives, on-going networks/programmes - Not lobbying for only farmer-led, farmer-managed, applied research – all research is important - Dialogue with donors (including the EC) so as to ensure that follow up and continuity is built-in
